I frequently hear the Haitian traditional media discussing the sharing of cake by political leaders of Haiti. I did not really understand at the beginning what they meant, but after I figured it out. Sometimes, they mention individuals who are not even in the government, those in opposition, or those not even engaged in politics. They are talking about the post for the cabinet minister in Haiti. Everybody, everywhere, even people outside the country want to control those posts. But why?
The Cabinet of Haiti is an executive body of the Republic of Haiti. The Cabinet is the collective decision-making body of the entire government under the Office of the Prime Minister. It is composed of the Prime Minister and several Cabinet Ministers. The Prime Minister is appointed by the President and ratified by the National Assembly. The Cabinet is chosen by the Prime Minister in consultation with the President. The Cabinet ministers receive money for the welfare of the country, but they do whatever they want with it. Some of them have redevance to those people who put them there.
To ensure transparency in the management of public affairs, the law mandates that members of the Haitian government disclose their assets to the Court of Auditors. The president, prime minister, senators, deputies, judges, cabinet ministers, and others are required to report to the court their homes, businesses, bank balances, and other items of wealth. Officials subject to this formality must declare their assets within 30 days of being appointed to office and 30 days after being released from office. Most people do not even know what is going on because the traditional media do not inform them.
The traditional media has not been doing their job. They are playing a game, probably because they are receiving their share.
